the half of it, because war is also mystery and terror and adventure and
courage and discovery and holiness and pity and despair and longing and love.
War is nasty; war is fun. War is thrilling; war is drudgery. War makes you a
man; war makes you dead.”
2. "They carried all they could
bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the
things they carried.”
3. "They
were tough. They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief,
terror, love, longing--these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their
own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight. They carried shameful
memories."

i think this quote is describing war as more than what people outside of it thinks it means.what the quote is trying to say is basically that war is what you make it it can be fun it can be dreadful it can be thrilling its just what u make it. that is what i think the quote means.
I agree with this response because it gives a great explanation of what it means and its a strong reason in my opinion.

Deletei agree what this quote means because it relates to my reason.
DeleteQuote #3 is telling us how they really are during war. I can picture them grieving and stressing through-out war. I wonder how much war and gunfights and memories they can take until they just explode.

Deletetotally rad dude!!!
i wonder the same thing.
DeleteAnna; Quote #2
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they're talking about their weapons. I think the quote is talking about the weapons, because it says "including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried." So maybe they're talking about the power of the weapons. And they're silent because they know what they're about to do.
@shakir smith from aigner and torrence, We agree with your opinion Shakir because we wonder how much war memories they can take to.
ReplyDeleteQUOTE 3

DeleteIn quote 2 I can picture soldiers walking along side a truck or trucks full of equipment and weapons of mass destruction. they are afraid that one day they will have to use them. whether they like it or not they will have to use them against the enemy.

I wonder if any of the soldiers became diagnosed ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder). I can picture a soldier crying. I am confused on why war is fun. Its not. This reminds me of crazy people

ReplyDeleteQuote #1 This means that war is tough and it is not a game. War is a life or death situation. It can also determine what you become and you are gonna act when its over. One last thing is that you can never know what can happen in war.
I agree with this because it's facts. good job
Deletequote 3
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the author is talking about how the soldiers are ashamed of taking people's lives from them. They are carrying the emotions that's going through their head , because the soldiers know that they are about to kill people.

ReplyDeleteI'm using quote 1
I think this quote means that war isn't just killing people. Even though war can be dreadful, you can also have fun while being in war. War gives you an experience in different countries. When they say war makes you a man, I think they mean war will get you out of your shell. It'll make you loosen up because you have to kill people. When they say war makes you dead, it makes you dead. People are killing and throwing bombs left and right. There's no telling who'll die. Only god knows
you wrote a whole paragraph... but i agree with you because you but in lots of detail and explained your main idea perfectly.
Delete"They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried.”
ReplyDeleteThey were emotionally wrecked by the war. They've killed and done things that no one would think of doing, it's taken a toll on their perspective on life and their state of mind.
They knew what they were doing, but even when they knew the consequence, they couldn't bring themselves to do it or believed they even did it in the first place.

DeleteKenny
ReplyDeletequote #2
I can picture the people going out to war with guns and grenades are scared of what is to come with the power they wield. these people were probably wondering why they are doing this and why they would need at that fire power. that is why I can picture that they are probably scared since their able to just willingly carry something so dangerous like its a toy.
I agree, Kenny. It is strange to think that a soldier's daily life involves carrying a heavy, powerful weapon.
Deletei agree with you opinion Kenneth because war is dangerous (obviously) and you pictured it well.
DeleteI can sympathize with Kenny on this. People's emotions are very different, but at the end of the day, you may be big and bad, but you can be scared very easily by these types of situations.
DeleteI agree because it's not easy waking up, knowing you taken someone else's life.

ReplyDeleteQuote 2 describes that the war was really emotional. Also they was a shock of terror. I can picture the faces of the soldiers when a friends life is taken away.
I do agree with this statement, because I too said something similar to this.
DeleteI picture the scene from American Sniper when Chris Kyle is watching people die from the site on his gun
DeleteEsmeralda Reese A. AND Elizabeth Ramsey
ReplyDeleteWe sympathized with quote #2, because it speaks the truth and its realistic. it saddening to know that theses people are doing good for our country, but in the end they end up suffering from what they experience. it is disappointing to know that these amazing people, risking their lives for us, are suffering.
I think that this is good because I can imagine this happening.
DeleteDestiny Booker
ReplyDeleteQuote #1: War can be dreadful but it's more to that. Sadness is not all there is in war there is more to it. War can really have you feeling jittery, focused, serious, hype, happy, and successful all in one. Going to war is like a big adventure that can have you feeling any type of way. You never know what can happen next. You never know if you will die, but war will make a man out of you. War is ful of opposite so just prepare for the best worst and unexpected.
In addition to when you said "You never know what can happen next," you also can never predict how war will effect you after you return home.
DeleteI agree with you when you say war can be dreadful but it's more to that. It's very vivid and an amazing description.
DeleteRosina Brower
ReplyDeletequote #2 i can picture them carrying the weapons and thinking about if they would have to kill someone or if someone might kill them. also they were scared because they dont know what their getting into or why that are getting into this. there thinking about if they did have to kill someone how it would affect them for the rest of there lives
Quote#1
ReplyDeleteIs explaining what war is all about and the emotions people have for it.It tells how war can effect you and make you feel. Also how war isn't just war its many other things dont expect it to be.Its fun, thrilling, and scary.
By Luke&Jean
I agree with because I said something similar :)

ReplyDeleteQuote 2: I believe that this quote is describing the emotions that the soldiers carry with them. These emotions took control of them, some they could bear and some they couldn't. Even though they never talked about it they always had this baggage of emotions full of reminders. These memories is basically living inside of them.
I can picture the soldiers going to war in quote #1. Even though I have never been in a war the quote makes me feel like I'm there. It is very imaginative. "War is hell"
ReplyDeletei agree with your quote and your opion.

ReplyDeleteI believe that quote 1 is describing that war is like living in two separate worlds. Living and death. Excitement and terror. You don't know what's going to happen next, it's like running through a maze and you don't know what will happen after every corner.
I agree with your opinion because I get the same feeling reading the quote
DeleteSahmir and Charles
Delete"They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried.” this quote shows the emotions of the soldiers. some could deal with them, and some couldnt. the memories are part of thier everyday lives.

MANNY LORAN
ReplyDeleteQuote 2 : this describes how is really emotional bad. They also discovered a shock because that's just how war is. I couldn't even imagine it.
3. I wonder if the soldier were aware of the intangible before entering the war. Is the weight of them too much for some soldiers. Are the shameful memories the memories of killing people.
ReplyDeleteSahmir Blackwell Charles Weeks
I agree with your opinion about the quote I felt the same way
DeleteNas bump
ReplyDeletein quote #1 I can tell the soldiers think that war will be hard but at the same time a wonderful experience. to learn things. at the same time its a life and death situation.
Quote 1 is saying that war isn't what people really think it is, and what I mean by that is it's like a separate life out on the battlefield and when they describe it ass hell I think they are saying that war isn't easy.
